A day of sore feet!!

Hello again!!

Last night I ventured out into to the bar/ restaurant area of Signapore, Clarke Quay, which was pretty cool. I got heckled by some escorts, but that was about it. Hehe. They might have been ladyboys, but I wasn't entirely sure!! I managed to get to sleep at 2AM which wasn't too bad. I got speaking to this Signapore girl at reception, and she is going to take me out for the day tomorrow, so that should be fun!

I managed to get up at 8:30 eager to see some more of the beautiful city. After the usual morning routine, I left at 11 AM and took the MRT to Dhoby Ghant to explore Orchard Road. It would be a shopper alcholics dream to visit there, but thankfully I hate shopping!!! I got myself a chocolate milkshake at McDonalds, which was so delicious!!! But it wasn't in a large so I was a little disappointed!

Afterwards I made my way towards Little India. Before exploring the area, I ate some pork and rice at the Tekka Centre. I could have had an Indian, but I am not a massive fan of their spicy food!!

It was pretty tasty!!!  Then I went around the area and visited the SriVeerama-Kaliamman temple, which was pretty cool. I met some Japanese girls and released my Japanese is very poor!!! One of them took this picture.

I then got the MRT to City Hall to check out the War Memorial and the Convention Centre. I then walked back to the hostel, and I was absolutely exhausted!! My feet hurt quite a bit!! I will be out again later!!!

I went out with a guy I met at the hostel, James, who said he was going up the Marina Bay Sands, which offered panoramic views of the city. We were supposed to 'pay' $20 to get up to top but we managed to get up for free for saying we were going up to the restaurant. The drinks were ridicously expensive, costing arounf $12.50 for non-alcholic drinks. I had an apple juice, which in British Pounds was £6!!! And it was nothing spectacular about it!!! The views were incredible though, especially after the sun had set, and I was impressed at how much you could see.

Aftwetwards we got back onto the MRT and went to Raffles Place to eat some food. There were plenty of many food outlets, but often consideration I chose to eat some Japanese food at an Udon. It was the Beef Bukkake, which was suprisingly delicious!! Hopefully something I will enjoy when I get to Japan :) I then struggled back to my hostel to write the rest of my blog entry!!

Scorching Heat!!!

Hello!

I managed to wake up early this morning around 7:30AM, which I am not sure how I did that!!! Had some complimentary breakfast after having a nice shower. It was standard western food; cereals, bread, juice, milk, etc. I had cocopops with toast and some juice!!! It was yummy!

At about 10AM I decided to venture out into the unknown and discover some more of Singapore. The city is much different in the day: the din of tropical birds and insects, traffic, people talking in various languages, bring together a good cacaphony of different sounds.

I first went to visit the numerous religious places in the area:
Thian Hock Keng Temple
Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church
Seng Wong Beo Temple

Nothing very exicting there but I thought it would good to get a sense of the culture in Signapore, and it definitely feels like a combination of Chinese, Singapore, Indian and Western European culture all-in-one. This was something I was not expecting.

I bought a big bottle of water and some fresh fruit to keep me going as I knew it was going to be a long day today. I got on the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit: cheapest form of transport in Singapore, usually costing $2 for a single trip!) at Tanjong Pagar station and went up to Dover. I explored the University, although there was not much there, except a McDonald's which I though was pretty cool!!! McDonald's at Reading Uni would have been awesome!

I continued my travels after a short break at the uni, and I tried to get to the coast but I got a bit lost, so I asked some kind people who helped me get a bus to a station which I needed. Before getting the train at One-North station I ate some food: chicken tikka wrap, which was delicious!! I had an ice cream also because it was so hot. Then I hopped on at One-North Station on the circular line and got off  two stops down at How Par Villa. I was planning to go to Reflections at Bukit Chandu but I wondered off in the opposite direction!!! I found How Par Villa, which was free to enter.

How Par Villa was pretty spectacular; it had various figurines painted in real life size, so that was pretty cool. Many of them were grotesque with blood and guts coming out, especially in the Ten Halls of Hell. I looked around the rest of the place, and took some pretty cool photos. I will upload a few photos today as I took so many.

As I knew I was a bit hot and tired, I decided to call it a day, so I got the train back from How Par Villa to Chinatown. I got back to the hostel, wrote some of my blog then crashed out!!

I am wide awake now (time is 22:00) so I will so go to explore Boat Quay which has some nice areas to relax and talk to some natives, hopefully!

I've landed in hot signapore!!!

At last I've done it: I'm in Singapore!!!

First impressions: bloody hot and humid!!! Not sweating too much though, which is good!! I was not as jet lagged as I thought so I've had plenty of time to explore the city. Before I did that I had a shower and explored the hostel, which is really nice! Beds are a bit cramped but it is cosy nonetheless. It is very modern, and not many bugs running around!!

I checked out the surrounding area; china town is pretty close, although not much there to tell you the truth; I went into a Hindu temple, which was pretty cool, although not much going on; some restaurants but I just scanned the area. I had dinner at McDonald's as I knew it would not upset my stomach!!!

I plan to venture out more into the city tomorrow. I hope to get up early so I can enjoy the early morning breakfast!!!
